Slimming diets usually fail so the best way to get in shape and to stay that way is to tune-up your eating habits. There are a few easy ways to make these changes:

  • Keep a Log Book

  • Keep a log book/diet diary over 3 typical days and this will show you the types of food you eat. If you are overweight you will see that you are eating foods too rich in carbs, sugars and salts. Snacks between meals are often foods high in fat and sugars.

  • Your diary should include all alcoholic and other fluid intake.

  • Note when and where you eat, i.e. home, work, movies.

  • To get in shape you have to make some changes to the way you eat and what you eat. Analyzing your food diary will highlight problem areas you need to tackle.
  • Overhaul Your Diet
It’s an interesting fact that a lot of people become diet experts over time, but are still overweight! We all look for a diet where we can loose a lot of weight without too much pain. Diets offering massive and rapid weight loss are often difficult to sustain because they are so rigid. It’s great to loose it but when you start eating again you pile on the amount you have lost, plus extra.

  • Swap foods you know are bad for you to tasty but healthier alternatives.

  • You cut right back on fast foods, ready meals, burgers, donuts, pizza, etc but allow yourself a few ‘foody sins’ a week otherwise the chances of the diet working become remote.

  • You cut down the size of your portions and cut your alcohol intake.

  • You swap cokes, sweet drinks and mixers to the diet range and up your water intake.
  • Consider the Costs
If you feel that following a specialized diet is the workable option for you consider its cost. Diets can be very expensive. Think about how much food supplements or diet plans will cost you. Can you afford it, short and long term?
Choose a diet represents a long term change in your eating habits and that won’t burn a hole in your pocket.

    Rev-up Your Metabolism
To get fit you need to move your body, speed up your metabolism and exercise. A great time to start is in the morning as this helps burn calories long after the exercise is finished.

    The Cost of Exercise
You don’t need to join a gym although that can be fun, increase your social life and give you motivation. You feel you have to go to get your monies worth! Sports cost do differ. Jogging and running once you have the equipment is free. You have to match your leisure time to your income. In your everyday life try walking some more, using stairs instead of the elevator – you know the kind of thing.

    Health Considerations
If you have health problems such as obesity or high blood pressure, or if you haven't exercised for some years you should maybe let your doctor check you out before you rush into vigorous exercise. If you join a gym make sure your fitness instructor is qualified. They will be able to provide you with a staged program of development.
