World AIDS Day is 1st December. This day marks the 19th International AIDS day.
AIDS was identified in 1959, but is effects not fully recognized until the early 1980s. Since the emergence of HIV/AIDS, AIDS has claimed millions of lives and continues to cause untold suffering throughout the world. Here are some thought provoking statistics
AIDS/HIV in the U.S.
It is estimated that over 4.2 million people are living with HIV/AIDS in the America.
In the United States recent evidence suggests a resurgence of HIV transmission among men who have sex with men (MSM) report the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Between 2001 and 2004 an estimated 44 percent of new HIV infections were in MSM, and 17 percent were in people who took drugs by injection.
On World AIDS Day we remember all the people living with HIV/AIDS and all those who have died from this terrible disease. We remind Governments throughout the world that they should focus their efforts and increase action on HIV and AIDS. HIV/AIDS needs leadership, prevention, care and support, treatment, and the recognition and respect of human rights.
