Definition:
Fear of flying (aviophobia) is a relatively common
state of anxiety that affects both men and women. The fear may not simply be
related to crashing or heights but can be embedded in a range of other issues
such as concerns about leaving others. Heightened anxiety is exhibited through
increased heart rate, quicker breathing, heightened sense of vigilance,
sweating, irritability and a fear of totally losing control, causing a scene,
sometimes being incontinent, or 'going mad'. Despite these dramatic symptoms the
cure rate for fear of flying is extremely good and not terribly complex. Related Resources:
