Question: Will I gain weight if I quit smoking?
Answer: This is a good question and one that concerns most of us. You have to remember that smoking is far more harmful to you than being overweight. If you keep your food intake the same then you should not increase your weight. Some research suggests that metabolism can sometimes change when you quit smoking, but in general this is not particularly significant. Snacks that replace cigarettes seem to cause the problem, especially if they are sweet. It is easiest in the long run is you try to keep your snacks under control or eat low carb food such as fruit. As you will feel fitter when you quit try increasing exercise. It can be part of the new you. It keeps your body and your mind occupied and active.
