Stretch Marks and Men

From Jerry Kennard, About.com GuideSeptember 27, 2006

Stretch marks are just as common in men as in women. It is just that men's hair tends to cover them up.

Stretch marks occur when skin stretches suddenly. The dermis, the inner layer of skin, gets thinner as it stretches and tears. These small tears mean you can see the blood vessels and that is what gives stretch marks their red color.

Athletes can be at greater risk for stretch marks as can men who rapidly put on weight or have rapid weight loss. Find out about the causes, treatment and preventative measures to avoid stretch marks in Stretch Marks and Men
